Long Hill Climb
Well last week I predicted fireworks if all the potential fast boys turned up, and they didn’t disappoint. Colin Parry stamped his authority on the event pulling 39 seconds out of second spot. Apparently Colin had time to note he was doing 24 MPH up the hill at one point, crossing the line not even looking like he had tried.
In the battle for top Ross honours, we had the power to weight ratio geared into the mix with the slightly down trodden Jerry’s lightweight torso stealing a march over Alan’s heavily muscled frame by a mere second. Both had given it their all, with Jerry in the worst state I think I have ever seen him.
Earl from the Forest is getting even quicker with the hills being one of his specialist subjects. Look out for him on the flats next year as I think he will be really motoring. Andrew looked the fastest up the finishing straight so assume he had saved a little on the early part of the hill. Hef was disgusted with his ride, being sure he could have gone faster, but he has to remember he is still broken.
In the friendly class Dave Harwood only just held Taff off which I think their battle next year will be very close unless he gets that TT bike. Alan Jones led the youngsters with Dave Giles smiling when he learnt he had beaten my slightly heavier frame to the top. Mike Druce a past hill climb champ found the climb difficult, with new members Clive and James having their own little battle.
Rider of the Night has to be Jerry as he really did give it his all, and did not rub it in to Cookie at all. Ahmmm
Full results here.
Next weeks event are the Hill climb at Speech House for the Forest and The Handicap 10 at Walford. Be early for a handicap and think about a rear lights as it is now getting dark in the wooded sections of the course.
The WCA 12 hour is looking for marshals, so if anyone fancies supporting those racing as well as getting a bit of marshalling, let me know. PS
WCA 100m TT
Alan, Paul S and Hef rode this event last weekend. Alan was fastest Ross rider (ever?) with 3:56:02 for 5th place overall and winning his vets group by over an hour. Hef scored a massive PB with 4:23:02 and Paul clocked a 4:40, held back by inappropriate sunglasses. Ryan Evans' photos of the guys in action are in the gallery.
Sharkie weds
Ross's Romanian regional representative Catalin Patrichi married recently. There are some great photographs here. The club sends their congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple.
Alan Cook - Welsh 10m TT Champion 2008
Congratulations to Alan on winning his first National Cycling Championship - the Welsh 10m TT. Alan clocked a club record 20:25 to win, backing up his 20:49 the week before at Raglan. There's a photograph of Alan in his winner's chapeau to the right.
